Hi All…
I’m new to the boards, but have enjoyed reading many of the posts. I have a question or two for you all…
I’m in the process of planning our home renovation, which also includes casting “stone” like columns and balustrades. I’m looking for information on concrete recipes that look like stone as opposed to concrete. Any suggestions (books, recipes, websites).
Thanks for the input.

Hi Patrick,
Here's a site that should get you started.
CAST STONE
*Not exactly what you want, but a couple of other web sites that you might want to check out:http://www.thestampstore.com/ Sells stamps to make concrete designs and also concrete colorshttp://www.concretenetwork.com/ general information on a variety of ways of working with concrete
*Tough to give info, esp if you are a trying to cast structural components yourself.Cast stone is done differently then regular concrete. The mix has much more cement in it...half portland, half sand is not uncommon...aggregate is optional, depending on the desired look. It's mixed very, very dry and tamped into place in the mold.Often times white portland is used along with pigments for integral coloring. After removing the form often times the surface can be combed or otherwise manipulated for varied textures.
