OK, No one answered a previous post before I got started…..but here goes..
Got talked into doing these bluestone steps for a customer that we had just finished his ‘cabin’ for. Got the concrete slugs poured, got the bluestone, got the big stones layed (~3’X4′) on the steps. Set them in mud…..
Got to looking at it, and me thoughts, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a little creek flow thru the middle of it, cascading down the center cracks on down the steps, and off to the side, then pump it up again.” So I layed it out for about a 8-10″ gap winding back and forth thru the large stones, then filled in the centers, with oblong, ‘it’ll look good there’ types, and a few pebbles here and there.
Now…I can swing a hammer and play with wood all day…..but I am no mason. So, been playing around with a few mixes of P. Cement and sand, and am going to “ice the cake” tomorrow morning. Is there a certain mix ratio I should use and what should I watch out for as far as the grout is concerned? (i.e. water) I am going to start with 1:2 an mud it in, but is ther something I am missing? I hope this works…Homeowner comes back from Alaska on Tuesday.
Thanks for any input……….Jimmy G.
