I am remodeling a house built in the 60’s. In a couple areas we want to tile over what is very likely asbestos tile. I’m looking for advice on the best method to tile over with 12×24 tiles.
There is diagonally run 3/4” x 12” solid pine subfloor with 1/2” of some sort of fiber board underlayment on top of it. I’m top of that is 9×9 vinyl asbestos tile.

If there is no squeaking when you walk on it and it feels solid. And if there is minimal or no damage to the vinyl, then use Custom's MBP. You roll it on with a paint roller to seal the vinyl. Then thinset the new tile to the MBP. Back butter every tile with thinset. Grout and seal.
I'd apply a couple coats of Redgard over it, then tile to that. Of course you'll need to test and see that the redgard will adhere well to the existing surface.
