Hi Guys,
I’m trying to decide which laser level to buy. I’d like to get one that is accurate enough to do foundations/large layouts, but also small interior jobs as well. I’m a pretty small scale remodeler right now, but hopefully doing some larger scare projects soon, so I’d rather invest $1000 now and have a long lasting tool rather than spend $500 now just to have to spend another $1000 sometime in the future. I have been checking out the specs on David White, CST/Berger/Lasermark, and they seem like what I am looking for, but wanted to check and see what other guys were using and suggestions/tips, etc?
Thanks!

It's hard to go wrong with David White stuff. It all seems to be good.
Remember that you can't really see the laser outside most of the time (unless it's dark) , so you will need a detector.
My little old Robo Laser is the only one I have that I can see in the sunlight.
I like to be able to turn the level off and on remotely. That is a very handy feature, however most levels don't have that available for some reason.
I excavate a lot of sewer lines so I like a level with a grade feature.
Some people find a need for a level that will project vertical lines
I worked with another guy this summer who had a Porter Cable laser level which did vertical, both above and below the level. It also had a sort of autolock, when it was level (or plumb) it would lock in, rather than waiting for the inner level to stop swinging. I plan on getting a laser level sometime soon and that's the one I'll be looking for, or something similar. One thing for sure, since I do a lot of handyman stuff I definately want one with the above and below plumb line.--------------------------------------------------------

Check out what PLS has to offer. The company is good (in my dealings with them-human beings that know what it's like to be in the trades). I have the PLS 2 but the PLS2E KIT is for both in/out. They have several others which may fit your needs better, do some study.

Calvin got me set up with the PLS2E.
I cannot say enough good things about it. The detector makes outside use a breeze.
Up till I got this laser, I dealt with a David White transit. It is an excellent tool, but having a laser level is so much easier to work solo. I've made so much use of it for indoor work that I wonder how I did without so long.
Check out the PLS line, you won't be sorry.

Another vote for the PLS2E. Just got mine a couple weeks ago, but it has already proved itself. Nice bright line inside & works great outside with the detector.

To work from rough site to finish, consider a pair of laser tools from PLS.
The PLS5xx with detector will get you from dirt all the way through structure top-out.
Inside, the PLS2e will handle all your window and door setting, and trim-out needs. You don't need the detector version of this one.
Now, what will you do with your change from the large?

I don't see how to save $$ by buying 2 lasers.
They are two different animals. The 5 is a dot generator, with greater long-shot accuracy than the line-generating 2.
We have both and I know. The 5 will give you perfect right angles for foundations, framing, and such. It will plumb you way up there.
The 2 gives you a plumb and or level line on a surface. Turn off its plumb function to fix the two-way line and you can rotate the "X" to do stair work or begin tile and flooring layouts.
Thanks. That clears it up.
PLS 2 and 5. 5 is great for framing, 2 for finish work.
