I have an older Makita cordless drill(Model 6095D)in need of a new switch, no problem. To replace the switch I need to split the drill in half, no problem. To split the drill in half I must take the chuck off, problem. The chuck will not budge. I removed the screw from inside the chuck, chucked up an allen wrench and gave it a good wrap with a hammer (counter clockwise), but the chuck won’t give. Did Makita use a trick I am not aware of or am I not as smart as I think I am.

I've got an old Makita that has a hole in the shaft right behind the chuck. There's a notch in the case so you can see the hole, stick a nail in and then whap the hex key...but clockwise or ccw? HA!
if the unit has reverse... CW....

"Is it still lefty loosey, righty tighty????"
That line always sounded to "sissy" for me. I taught my kids:
"Left is loose, tight is right"
Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.
What about calling the nearest Makita service center and asking how it comes apart? Why does the chuck need to come off- is there a part of one half that inserts into the other and the shaft goes through the hole?
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
So, let me know how they turn out, ha, ha, ha ;-)<G> LOL Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Try this:
Remove the lock screw from the drill.
Chuck a 2" hexbit in your impact driver.
Chuck the other end in your drill.
Put the impact in FORWARD.
HAVE AT IT!Men come of age at sixty,

THAT will probably work.Altough you may want reverse.Depends on which direction Imerc and Bucksnort decide to dance...

Which way did the screw come out? The threads of the screw should be opposite those of the chuck.
