I see lots of 6′-8″ & 8′-0″ tall french hinged/sliding exterior doors & many manufacturers sell one that is 6′-10″ tall. Does any wellknown manufacturer sell 7′-0″ tall doors? Why would they make ’em 6′-10″ when it’s so close to 6′-8″?? I’m 6′-6″ & I’m working on a house design for a family w/ a couple of 6′-8″ tall sons-in-law.. so the minute difference really will be noticed (Especially given the fact that Andersen, for instance are 6′-8″ to outside of frame – so that is out the window)… the 6′-10″ door size just makes me scratch my head.
In this case, the ceilings are only going to be 9′ high so 8′ doors concern me from a proportionality standpoing. I suppose the 6′-10″ solution would probably be fine but then my door heads won’t match a ‘typical’ interior door head height – unless they’re custom made.
Is there an alternative that I’m missing?
Also – can anybody offer an opinion on EAGLE windows & doors?
Thx

After 6-8, Andersons jump to 7' 11, Kolbe is basically the same, Norco has a 6-10 which the UD is a little larger than average, but Marvin makes a 7-0 size. . . if you want a French door, and if you want 4 wide. The smaller of the options requires a 12' width RO. That being said, just about any manufacturer you like will be willing to custom size their product to get you what you want. If you're sold on a certain dimension, go to a yard that offers the line, give them the dimensions, and have it quoted. You'll pay extra for the size difference, but if thats what you want, you can have it.
" We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita . . . "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." - J. Robert Oppenheimer
Norco Windows makes a clad door that is 7' 2 1/2" tall.
Also the reason most manufactures make a 6'8" and 6'10" is that the 6'8' is considered a retro fit size. A lot of headers are set at 6'8". With the 6'8" you can put a door in say where a window was without raising the header. The 6'10' ht gives you a full 80" tall (sill to head jamb).
I wasn't aware of that - have used Norco before. Thanks
