I have decided to re-join the UBC (carpenter union). Get back into big commercial jobs. It’s been a long time and I need a bit of info. I know things have changed alot since 1986.
What PPE do I need to provide?
What personal tools do I need to show up with? We used to carry basic belt tools and a 24″ tool box with more basics. No power tools.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

no ppe most of the contractors supply hard hats and saftey glasses.
as for the tools just hand tools still no power tools.
why did you leave the union anyway?
When I left my job as a commercial superintendent last year, it seemed that the carps provided their own hard hats, gloves, and boots. Eye and ear protection appeared to belong to the subcontractor (I worked for the GC, so I really didn't pay much attention).
As far as tools go, the basic hand tools came with the individual, but the power tools and large hand tools (shovels, scrapers, pry bars, etc.) were supplied by their boss.
So hammer, snips, razor knife, handsaws, pliers, level, that sort of thing would be yours.
I actually left the union to enlist in the Marine Corps. I have been doing jobs on the side ever since. Framing, remodeling, kitchens and baths, lots of drywall. Kept up my skills and my passion. Just miss the big stuff. Even setting forms! Now I'm retired but too young not to work. The union says I still have Journeyman status so I paid an initiation fee and dues and am going to be back to work soon.

Just the fact that you WANT to be a Union Carp tells me you won't pass the PPE test...

Your employer is obligated to provide PPE's and the training on how to use them, thanks to OSHA. The exception is your workboots. Most companies provide the power tools, the hand tools are up to you, those will depend on the type of work.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
