My father-in-law recently had a terrible pool contractor at his house and left him with many problems. Right now he is dealing with red clay stains all over the concrete decking. Since my company is based over two hours away, we do not have time to make it to his house for everything and so I am trying to lead him in the right direction to solve this problem (I have great confidence that with the correct information he can complete this task easily). He already has tried various cleaners and acids with no luck. I am hoping someone may know the best process to rid the decking of stains and have it ready for a concrete sealer. There is only young grass around the decking that I feel can be sacrificed and replaced if the cleaning process injures it. Thanks!

I assume the "red clay stains" you refer to are merely surface stains from tracking clay from the construction site over the concrete. If so, have you tried a pressure washer? That may get them up with minimal or no chemical cleaner.

Yes a pressure washer has been used without positive results.

Well, I don't know of anything that will disolve clay. Bleach may get some of the color out, but other than than, my only suggestion would be to get a bigger pressure washer! ;-)
Seriously, using a small nozzel and high enough pressure, you can pretty much eat away at the concrete. You won't get good results by just "hosing it down", even with a pressure washer. You'll need to do it inch by inch, close quarters.

I agree with what Mike said. If that doesn't work, the next step is muriatic acid and a wire brush. Don't forget gloves and eye protection.
clay stains in concrete?like as has been said - a pressure washer can take whatever is on the surface right offdon't know about its removal but you mention new grass next to concrete
could that red clay be nitrogen staining from some fertilizer?
The stains have been there prior to seeding. I have concidered suggesting using more pressure but do not want to damage the new concrete.
trust me on this one "Calgon" the bath soap. what it is , is sodium hydrodrate.( not spelled right) we use it in the lab to break down clays. Mix a 1000 grams to gallon of water. thats about two good cups. pour on the clay let set about thirty minute and pressure wash. it be gone.
