has anyone experienced unequeal hip measurements being off when using trusses. I’ve traditionally always measured the height of my girder trusses, converted that to a run and then figured out the lenth of my common and followed with conv 14(eg)in ptch hpv. 8 times out of 10 my hip measurements work out almost exact and really they should I’m figuring height above plate and run.On some occasions it is as thought I’m 1.5 inches short. I havent been able to determine why. Is there a way that anyone knows of when dealing with trusses that could be trusted so I can cut my roofs fill in peices ect. from truss drawings? Or do I just need to be more carefull. I was also wondering if I’m told to raise the pitch of the front of a roof. Could I measure the inside distance from fascia to fascia divide it by two and use that as a run? I’ve been trying to figure that out, but I could really just use some advice from a master. When there are two converging valleys of different pitch I.e typical with a baywindow. is there a way to figure out the difference in length for rafters with construction master. Lastly how can I contruction master for making plywood templates for sheathing the roof. Thanks

The CM calculators are sophisticated tools, and can be used to solve just about everything related to roof frames and sheathing them.

I ran into same situation a while back and a lot of head scratching and calc pecking later I got it. Couldn't tell ya now how i got it but I found a great book actually from a builder here in Hawaii called "Ther Rafter Book" by David McIntire. it has excellent tables for sheathing cuts on hips, valley, saw and miter angles
Real quick: on a 12/12 pitch
if start your first 4x8 sheet at the fascia intersection of the hip, measure back along the uphill 8 ft side of the ply 33 15/16" Then snap a line from this mark to the downhill 8 ft side corner where the ply hits the point where fascia meet at a 90. saw set at 30 degrees, cut the line. Perfect fit. Blew me away.
Takes a bit to get used to but if you flip that around, it works for valley just as well.Land of the boring 4/12 hip roofs...
