   Hey Mike,

   I see no one has jumped into the middle of this one. What you request knowledge on is something only the finest of masons will attempt.

   It requires special forms and masonry skills far beyond the norm.

   We are currently working a project here in Dallas with a mason the client brought in from Oklahoma. His work is spectacular. He is now finishing up what will be an underground tunnel with a 90 degree turn with a barrel ceiling. Our company built the forms as he requested and it is a sight to behold. However, it's not for the beginner or the intermediate. This is a masters project.

   I've built lots of groin vaults both straight and curved with framing to be plastered, veneered with wood or sheetrocked, but masonry is a whole different animal.

   I'd suggest that you contact the very best "stone mason", not a brick mason, in your area and talk with him. This is in no way a DIY project. Unless you have time and resources to screw up a few times. Beware falling rock.

   *You got me there Joe,I thought that sounded funny when I wrote it. If it's straight, it's not really a "groin vault" at all. I guess it's just a plain old vault.Thanks,Ed.

   Does anyone know how to construct a groin arch.I've also heard it referred to as a double vaulted arch. The arch will be made of masonry material(burnt adobe brick). The primary construction element is frame except that of the arch and its supports which is located in the entry way of the project.
