All right,
Last night I asked about copper vs. vinyl flashing for flashing an exterior deck. My contractor agreed to install copper. I see today that the copper he put on is a 3 ounce copper with a paper backing.
Is this sufficient? I have conflicting information that as much as 16 ounce or more copper should be used.
Should I make some waves here?

Sounds cheap to me.
You should get what you want and are willing to pay for. I am no expert at all but that flashing sounds like what I have seen with an adheasive backing which, if properly applied should be good, depending on the situation, etc.
What, specifically, did you request he use?

What does the contract state? 16 oz. copper is quite expensive. I'm not saying this is a reason why he should use an inferior product, but if the contract states he planned on using vinyl flashing and you want him to install 16 oz. copper, it's fair for you to pay the difference.
We use this vinyl flashing which you can purchase from McFeely's.

Sheet copper, last I heard, was about $4.50/pound. Back when I did my roof, I paid $1.74, but had to have it shipped out from Roanoak, VA. Local vendors were about 30% higher, and didn't have much in stock. The plastic/copper laminate he got might be a Home Depot item, real sheet copper certainly isn't.

Jon,Do you also use the vinyl flashing between the deck ledger & the house or just to the exterior of the ledger?bd
We don't flash behind the ledger unless there is serious concern of water infiltration. In that case, strips of ice & water shield are cut to protect the rim joist.
