I’m hoping Grant’s still around.
Here’s some pics of my parents’ kitchen dormer with copper roof, installed about 25 years ago.
Having been out of their house for thirty-something years, I’m sketchy on day to day details, but I’m told it progressed from the shiny new copper sheen, to the typical green patina, but then turned brown, as in the pics. Not only is it brown, but it’s kinda streaky and nasty. Is this normal for copper roofing?
They’re in South Western Ontario; similar climate to Detroit.
Thanks,
Scott.

Nothing wrong there. What color the copper turns and the timetable are influenced by the atmosphere, weather, and what's in the air. If you clean it, you remove layers and shorten it's life.
Note that stuff like sulfur in the air can have a strong influence.
Thanks guys. We'll file this under the "nothing to worry about" category.
