several of the Corian competitors such as Swanstone (but not Corian itself) make 1/4 inch thick solid-surface sheets (30″ x60 or 72″) designed for tub and shower surrounds, at considerably less cost than full-thickness countertop stock. Is there any reason why such a sheet couldn’t be glued to 3/4″ plywood, and edge-trimmed to make a low-cost countertop resembling and having all the surface advantages of the real thing?
