We are designing a cabana/pool house for a client in the Pennsylvania. In the cabana will be a counter with stool seating and a back countertop over storage cabinets. The octogonal structure will be open on four sides, therefore exposed to the elements. In the winter months sliding or folding doors will cover the back counter and cabinets. Any suggestions for the countertop and cabinet materials. We thought we had seen an article on “fireslate” in a trade publication, but can’t recall which one. Thanks for your input.

There is a little "blurb" about fireslate in FineHomebuildings recent first annual Kitchen and Bath issue....page 112. I live in Canada where exposed pool houses aren't too common......so can't be of much help.

I saw a pool house that had cedar cabinets (very few) and a ceramic tile counter top. It looked ok and very servicable.
