I am putting raised paneling over an existing masonry fireplace. On the sides of the fireplace there are chambers with vents. On each side there is one chamber low and one chamber high.I dont see any connection to each other or the fire box.
My question is can I fill in the vent opening with brick?.
The openings are not in a location that fits the lay out of the paneling and would detract from the overall look of the finished product. The openings are 28″ from the actual fire box. When you look into the vent you can see the back side of the metal firebox(+/- 28 ” in). I felt with my hands and shined a light in both the vents and the firebox . No connection was found.
In the past on other projects the “heatalators” were conected to get aflow of air from convevtion and they fit into the design. Not so in this case
