Mike... yes, they do. Most often due to dead rodents, leaking pipes, and moisture.
*I know alot of you guys have slithered through more crawlspaces and basements than I have yet, so I wanted to pick your collective brain. This house I am doing a seismic retrofit in has the most intense, sour sort of smellin it's damp basement. The smell is similar to the yeasty odor of homebrew fermenting, only very offensive. Any ideas of the source? Is this a hazzardous condition? Thanks
*Mike,If this is mold - it could be very dangerous. Do not enter the area without a respirator. My husband did some work in a crawlspace that was moldy and spent three days in the hospital. Now, two years later, he is still having sinus infections, has had three sinus surgeries, and always uses an inhaler for asthma. He never had any of this before the exposure to mold. Be careful!Sue V.
