Question for you all, I have several hollow core doors in my house that I need to trim down so that they close completly. I have 2 differant situations that I need to deal with.
The first is some of the doors don’t close completly as the house has settled since we built it so I need to trim off some of the top/right hand side.I was thinking of using my electric hand planer to accomplish this. Any thoughts? The most I have to take off is 1/8″. How are these doors constructed? Are there nails to worry about? Or are they usually just glueups?
The second is when I hung 2 of the doors originally we had not planned to carpet that area we have since installed carpet and now the buttoms of these 2 doors rub the carpet. How do I go about cutting these down? I was thinking of using my tablesaw as I have to remove almost a 1/4″ off the bottom. Is there enough “meat” in these to use a saw? Also I’m concerned that when cutting them they might splinter along the edge anyway to prevent this?
Thanks Mark
