I read up on the recommended distances for a slab in a past article. basically it came down to no further than 10 feet and 1″ deep.
My question is about stress from walls on top of the slab and piers under it. I have 5 piers under the slab at the edge that will have 4x4s on them holding up the roof. If a crack goes into the slab at these I’m not to concerned as it won’t show much.
But there is a 3 1/2′ wide walk way that comes from the edge of the slab up to the house foundation. That walkway will show and will have a wall on each side. Should I isolate out the walk way by cutting the slab where the walls will sit on each side of it? Or will cutting the slab that way create a long section that would tend to crack across it?
Just wondering. If I’m going to cut these in Maybe I should think before I cut?
