had a customer ask me the other day about cutting some holes in a mirrow. Specically, she wanted to mount to light fixtures on the surface so we would need two hole slightly bigger than the work boxes in the wall behind them.
How do you do this? I’ve got a glass cutter, but only used that for strait lines across the peice of glass I was cutting.

take the mirror to a glass shop or supplier that you normally use. they can cut the holes for you for a small charge. They have the tools and skill set to do this, and the risk is low for them.
I have had two cut for recepticals and I don't think they cost me more than $10 each. My supplier did point out that I was responsible for the locations. I had one large 9'x 3' mirror with two cutouts in it, but the cuts and installation were part of the installers contracted price.

You carefully mark it and carefully take it to your nearest glass company where they have already learned their painful lessons.
I used to do that kind of work. Take it to a glass shop, you won't likely be sucessful. It's a world of difference from cutting a straight line.
But if there was a round hole we would use a glass circle cutter, snap it loose, then try to cut the cutout in pieces without breaking the rest of the mirror. For square cutouts we drill the corners and again try to cut the cutout loose. Contrary to what someone else said, it is not low risk at all. And the shop will make no guarantees that it will work out on customer supplied mirror.
