I’m in the process of making trellises and want to put a nice pediment on the top. The angle I’m having trouble figuring out is putting the crown at about 20-30 degrees to mate with a flat horizontal narrow shelf to make a colonial style pediment. I hope this makes some sense. I have searched for instructions on how to make this type of cut in all my books, back issues of Fine Home buildingg, thebook storere, thinterneded, etc. I have Craig Savage’s trim book, but he doesn’t detail this type of cut. I know there must a trick to it that I haven’t figured out. Does any one know of a source that does a good job of describing this type of trim cut? So far, the best I’ve come up with is holding the trim at the approximate angle with my hand and using my miter saw at the straight 90 degree cut. Then try to get closer with a rasp. There must be a better way. Thanks.
