Cypress Deck, cleats, staples, screws?
I’ve recycled some cypress and re-milled it into t&G 5/4 decking for my front porch. It is tight grained and will work fine on this 100+ year old house. Some of the old heart pine joists are still in great shape, but I’ve replaced the rest with pt. Wondering if cleats or staples would work better in this application (intend on using ss), or if I need to screw the cypress down with a long trim head screw rated for pt. I’m a bit worried that the cleats (2″ longest I’ve seen) or staples aren’t long enough for 5/4 decking and will pull out. Any suggestions are kindly appreciated

Trim screws sound good to me, I like the Torx drive SS. I have seen them up to 2.5"

+1 to what Sphere said, tho I'd think about pre-drilling that heart pine, if it's as hard as some of the stuff I've seen...
