hi weekend project, need to add some stairs to my deck. The ideal rise tread layout does not leave me with much joist material to attach the stringers to the decK. However if i add one more step this would give me plenty. This option make the last step an extension of the deck.
Anything wrong with making the last step an extension of the deck?
Happy Labor Day ( and am i laboring)

danz,
Your idea is my preferred way of building steps on a deck. With a rail around the deck (and especially with the post fastened to the outside of the box), this design eliminates the "chance" of accidently loosing footing around the stair opening. If you choose to not have the stair an extension of the deck surface, you can hang the horses from the box. Remember of course that the connection at the top of the stair is very important, alot of weight and force when in use.
