A current job includes joining a residence to the previously
free-standing garage. The garage ceiling will be covered in
sheetrock… any other form of fire-blocking is out of the
question.
I’ve learned I’ll need a FIRE RATED pull-down (flip/flop)
stair for the garage storage area. The inspector said they
aren’t cheap
My supplier said the same… in fact he’s priced them several
times, but never sold one, and he figures there must be some
way to modify a standard unit to meet code..
I’ve got some ideas, like maybe a layer of ½” plywood to bring
the (already installed) door panel down to the sheetrock level,
and then an 18-gauge metal sheet to cover that. Gasketing
could be a problem, but then we regularly see vinyl gaskets on
doors leading from the residence into the garage.
Anyone ever dealt with this in the field? Any Ideas or solutions
that would be code-compliant?
Thanks in advance, Steve
