I am ready to lay down that 100 year old fir tounge and groove flooring and have run into some questions that I want cleared up before I continue.
It’s a typical 2 X 8 joists on 16″ centers with a 3/4 ply subfloor, The wood has been onsite for 2 weeks now and moisture meter indicates it has stabelized with the home, now I know most websites I have checked out recomend a 15 lb builders felt. When I went to pick it up at the suppliers today they asked me if i wanted plain tar, perforated tar or kraft paper, I went with the kraft paper to make it odour free but am wondering if that was the right choice?
My other concerns are that the tounge and groove are only on the long sides of the boards and I will have to have the odd butt joint. What extra percautions do I need to take……. toenailing or screws and plugs?
Lastly, the wood came to me “experienced” from an old church, the bulk of it is over 20′ long….. but there are short pieces of tounge missing along the length as well as some bottom groove. I am thinking it should still be ok to use as long as those missing pieces are not excessive (eg 6″ or more)?
Thanks for any help
