Hello all. I recently put in recessed lighting. I also added a dimmer switch, which I thought would dim, but it does not. I can just turn it on and off from this switch, not dim. Do lights need to be rated for dimmer switches? Is there anything I can do other then replacing it with a standard light switch?
Thanks!

It should work if they the fixtures use incandenscent bulbs.
Sounds like you might have gotten a bad one.
What kind of bulbs are you using? I recently put in recessed lights and wanted to use compact flourescent floodlight bulbs. Unfortunately, the ones that are readily available from places like Home Depot are not dimmable. They are either on or off. Sucks! They put out 65 watts worth of light and used only 13 watts of energy. They were also a nice white light.
I had to switch to Phillips Halogena 60 watt lights. I think they are incandescent lights enhanced to put out the bright white of a halogen. They're definitely not true halogens.
Do you also notice a buzzing sound from your lights or dimmer?
