Hawaii still requires, for a final inspection that an air gap be properly installed to the dishwasher.
The pre-drilled granite top was out of holes for the air gap after the owner realized she had a spot for a soap dispenser.
We mounted the air gap on the upper inside of the sinkl cabinet.
The owner says it leaks and requires a pan to be placed under it and, that pan has to be emptied.
Rightfully so, there is the concern of mold and mildew.
Would it be best to now take out the air gap and then, splice the line solid.
No air gap no leaks etc..

You can do what a lot of jurisdictions allow, that is to make a loop as high as you can go and then fasten it to the garbage disposal or the tail piece.
South carolina and I think manty states do not require air gaps- just loop the discharge line up under the counter as high as you can
Most jurisdictions do not require an air gap. Mfgrs' install instructions tell you how to route the hose.
