Ditra … never used it. Application is floor tile over 3/4 advantec over 2×12 @16″ less than 10 ft span. Normally I would use hardieboard. Thinking about Ditra this time. Any reasonm not to? And about how much does it cost?
I’m sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

now consider it with the labor costs added in ....
and the uncoupling ....
and the ease of use and light wieght material handeling ...
and ... and ...

I did.
No, it's not.
Other situations will vary. $1.45/ft seems much more reasonable. Very impressive demo.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!

Yup, sometimes....PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
I agree, and I dont even set tile! A good friend does a lot of tile, and we end up in the same house frequently. Man that stuff is a problem solver. Floor heights dont get jacked, the "decoupling" as you mentioned (yeah, I had that explained to me) but IIRC, he thinks hes getting the shaft and is only paying about a buck a foot for it. Might have to double check that. I think the appropriate terminology is "more gooder""If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. I love the stuff!!
No dealing with fifty billion screws or nails.
No weight to carry.
No cement crumbs all over the place.
No special tools required.
Great on the knees.
All in all.
It aint all that much more money especially with that link to "tile-experts" site (thanks)....considering all the advantages...ESPECIALLY on a second floor? Well worth it.

Great post, Andy! (Now be truthful....how much did Shleuter pay you to say that!) >>>>>>Next best thing is "Wonderboard" IMO.Two opposite materials. WB just feels super solid unlike other CBU's but its heavy and a mess to work with in a bathroom or kitchen and its also not waterproof but it'll never fail on you used correctly.....in spite of what some say, I 'do" think it also adds ridgitity.I'll still take Ditra anytime on a floor.
Think they'll pay me now???$$$

Cover me boys, I'm going in.
Got my first piece of Ditra. $1.54/sf. And a bag of FlexBond. Fella said it was better than VersaBond. Cost more anyway ... $27 for a bag of white.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

Got that right!
or ... any floor and lotsa sq footage ... did a 600 sq ft storage room once ...
man ... did my back like the ditra! 40 sheets vs one roll ...

You can get it online for about $1.45 sf:

I used it for about 300sf of 16" sq. tile. Liked it and was impressed with the quality. Cleaner and easier to cut than cement board or hardi, will have less height than 1/2" hardi, and provides a smooth & clean surface to tile over when down... all in all a good quality product in my opinion.

I just used it in a bathroom redo at my FIL's; the area was small and it was a good place to try it because it allowed me to flush the tile with the HW floor in the adjoining room.
Easiest underlay job I ever did! I look forward to using it again....the ease of use and no dust and the way it layed down nice and flat on the thinset bed and was really slick to trowel over for the tile....I don't see it as a big expense when labor is factored in.
And besides....since the job was small, I didn't put on my kneepads and it was easier on the bones than Hardy or Durock would have been.
I'm trying to get Ditra into Depot in the midwest. Some stores carry in stock, but all can s/o it for you.
