Does anyone know of any good and economical diy closed cell spray insulation kits. I want to insulate my current attic, which I am going to make into a functional upstair with a full shed dormer off the back. I priced a few insulation contractors and it was $4,500-$6,000. If I can do it myself, I would like to save the labor money.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have done the math on a couple of vendors. Even the bulk kits are not cost effective if you need more than 2 or 3 units relative to an installer.

Here you go:

If you decide to DIY it get yourself one of those one piece tyvek suits with a hood and a respirator.
I've been wanting a DIY setup also. My projects usually are too small to pay someone else to come in. I've asked a couple times here and had limited responses about this. This kit listed on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Spray-Foam-Insulation-Urethane-Foam_W0QQitemZ180215152918QQihZ008QQcategoryZ63894QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem seems like the best bet, and the best price per board foot. Unfortunately nobody here has replied whether they've used it before. Since it uses external compressed air, I would think that it is consistent from beginning to end of each cartridge. Where the Tiger Foam type, I would think would get weaker as the cartridge pressure goes down. If you go this route please let me know how it works out.

Only three grand what a bargin!
"Only three grand what a bargin!"
Well yes, a relative bargain. Works out to 75 cents a board foot vs. 1.10 to 1.50 for the Fomo / Tigerfoam type kits.
Ofcourse if you have one project using all of the stuff at one time, calling somone in would make more sense. On the other hand, if this covers 5 to 20 smaller projects, this way cheaper than a specialist.
I want all the guys doing the figurin' with the Tiger foam to come work for me please. Your rate is zero an hour correct? Seriously, usually the min rate to come do a job is $1000 to $1500. Less is like getting an excavation company to dig a hole for your mail box post.I've never talked to a DIY person doing a SECOND large foam job themselves!
Don't know - I couldn't make the numbers work, on a pretty big attic (the "Attic Recovery" thread). I used a sort-of Mooney wall arrangement; lots cheaper and works very well, says the client.

Price seems kind of high, how thick is the foam? I got a price of 2.25 per sq ft for 2 1/2 thick foam. That would be roof and floor over crawl space, walls would be 2" thick at 1.85 per sq ft.

Tigerfoam, $630 for 600 board feet, don't know where you are located so I don't know how much you are looking for, R-7 per inch and then you can put a layer of Astro-Foil on the inside next to the foam for another R-7. 2" foam + foil and you have R-21 when you are heating, something in excess of that when you are cooling.
