Client wants his carport framed-in to create a (unheated) garage. It’s a typical carport; straight gable roof connected to house, supported by beams and posts on sono tubes in clay soil.
He balked when I told him, I would have to pour a 4′ concrete wall w/ footing for frost protection, eliminating the need for the old supports.
The client figured on pouring a slab and then simply frame it in.I know this would never get past the permit stage.
Is there another logical, cost effective technique?
Can you frost protect a monolithic slab on grade with styro? (unheated garage)
Could I use a concrete grade beam anchored and supported by sono(below frost) with crush stone under grade beam for drainage.
THANKS FOR ANY INPUT!

you could do this:
pour concrete slab that is thicken around the edges, the thickness will vary from region to region.
insulate with two inch styro along the edge verticle, 2' down
insulate 2' styro horizontal around perimeter making sure you have good drainage at perimeter this is an army corp of engineer design and has been approved by national building codes
