There is a small octagonal room between the two upstairs bedrooms that is supposed to be a study area for the kids. My kids are 2 and 4 so I am going to have to give up that space soon.
I'm planning a 12 x 14 addition off my bedroom, kind of a muti-purpose room. Office, exercise equipment and master lounge. The room will have direct access to the driveway which is important
Of course there is an office. How else to take the deduction? The bigger the desk, the bigger the deduct. Make sure it is dedicated to business so there's no conscience concerns re. IRS. Makes a difference when you portionout the heat elect etc. Ideally I think would be a dedicated shop with a nice "tack room" attached that would be my office.
This is for a sole proprietorship, office personnel might dictate a "real" office.

Quittin' Time
The house I am living in I built 3 years ago, I built an office, 8' x 12', just off the kitchen. I figured that I spent so much time in here but I still wanted to be near everyone else in the house. Works good I get to talk to everyone coming and going and work at the same time.
I am in the process of adding a tiny office in my garage, next to the washer & dryer & w/h. It won't be conditioned, and it will be open to the rest of the garage, but I plan to finish rocking the lid, and I will set up a desk with phone & answ. mach., computer w/internet, and shelving for some of my (too) extensive construction reference library (I'm a bookaholic).

Huck,
I don't see enough outlets in the walls.
Some other electrical gizmos to consider are, cell phone charger, adding machine, fax machine, shredder, I have a small heater, and task lighting over the desk area.
Put in lots of outlets so you don't have a rat's nest of power cords. Keep the cords coiled up and tied off with cable ties.

Hadn't thought of all that. The open wall is where I was adding phone & cable, and I had planned on a 4-plex box, but I guess I'll plan for a few more! Thanks.
I just built a 9 x 12 office and it had 32 receptacles on 8 circuits for all of the various office equipment. Plugs where installed at floor, desk and 12" from ceiling all around office along with numerous cat 5 cables brought back to a central patch panel.
Jeff, you da man!
I like the sound of 32 outlets...on each wall.
What do you use the 12" off the ceiling ones for?
blueJust because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. There are some in here who think I'm a hackmeister...they might be right! Of course, they might be wrong too!
The outlets 12" from the ceiling are used for battery chargers, firewall and network equipment so I dont have cords running down the walls
Jeff
Are install some Plugmold with 3" or 6" spacing. Gives you room for all the wall warts.
Dining room. We used it as a dining room maybe half a dozen times in the 20 years we've been here. I took it over 7-8 years ago. Wife keeps threatening to charge me rent, I respond by threatening to bill her for the insurance, real estate taxes (mortgage is paid off) and all the other big ticket items that the business pays. Oh, and tuition for the twins. Speaking of big ticket. Gotta go back to work, I just reminded myself how much I'm in the hole...
