I’m a subscriber to the philosophy that a penny saved is a penny earned. So, it deeply troubles me when I see a guy doing his job screw up work done by someone else. Whether it’s the electrician who dropped his tools and cracked a sink, or the painter who dripped on the wood floor, or the dry wall guy grinding up the new tub.
Everytime a job has to be done twice, or thoughtlessness causes damage, it shows disrespect for the person who did the work, delays the job and eats up profit.
It’s not that it doesn’t happen. It’s not that people can’t make mistakes. It’s just those mental lapses where a worker thinks only of his work and forgets that he’s part of the whole team who gets a job from start to finish. Why must this happen, and how can we control it?
