The last few weeks have seen drywall reach new shortages and the prices increase almost 19% at HD for 12 footers, if you can get them. This is getting out of hand.
Question, is there somewhere else in the country where I can buy drywall in large qty (say flatbed loads of 500+ sheets) at a reasonable price? I can make arrangements to ship them back here.
So I guess what I am asking is if you know where there is a distributor or manufacturer selling 12 footers in large qty, get back with me as I am interested in buying a few loads.
Thanks,
Terry

It's a national shortage so you would be unlikely to find a deal on 1000 sheets.Suppliers not price gouging have the bulk of their rock sold before it's delivered to them.

It is in short supply here in NC too. It's going for about $12.00 or $12.50 a sheet including inside delivery. Some suppliers are out, some can still deliver. It's $10 something, w/o delivery. That was for 400 sheets. (1/2 x 4 x 12)

Don't worry boys! As soon as the price goes up high enough there will be all kinds of it around!
*HD prices (I'm getting desparate) for 1/2 12' have gone from 9.88 to 10.87 to 11.86 here without delivery in two weeks. And if I buy from them, I then have to hire labor to load the house as none of the normal drywall suppliers want to load it. It's nuts, and the finishers are getting on the band wagon and feel that if rock is more expensive, they should get more as well. Mud, screws and glue next? There has got to be somewhere in this country where rock is still plentiful at a reasonable price....but where? Is there an alternative to drywall that is more economical? Do we return to plaster walls of years past?Terry

there was an article in the sunday homes section of the Hartfod CT paper today basicaly saying that this is the begining of many short supplies. They note that manufactoring has not increased its capicity do to nerverousness over the long term market. They see shortages in other building goods over the summer so stock up now and don't quote jobs to far out.
*I was just told by my materials supplier friday that shingles may be on short supply this summer.I agree with Kevin, keep your bids open for a couple of weeks, and stay in touch with suppliers this summer!
