Some advice please. New construction, 9′ ceilings (downstairs), 1/2″ ply subfloor, 5/8″ overlay (not done yet). The carpenters want to wait until drywall is hung before overlaying floors, they also say the drywall hangers will have to cut off the edge of each sheet if the overlayment goes on first. I’d really like some pros and cons to help me with this decision. The carpenters could be just trying to buy some time…
Thanks much,
Bill Smith
P.S… Check out the house pic.

Checked out the picture of your house and I think you've been punished enough so I won't comment.

*i The carpenters could be just trying to buy some time... Are you paying by the hour or did they bid the job? I doubt they want to make a career of your house...If you drywall first, that will make one less layer of guck on the overlay before the finished floor goes down. The drywallers will be happier, maybe spend some extra effort where it shows. Relax, buy 'em a couple dozen donuts...and don't mind Gabe, he's had a streak of jealousy lately.
*we always have em plaster before we do the second layer of flooring...have your plaster / drywall guys do a good cleaning..and then make sure it gets checked before the second layer gets laid....if it's still not too clean , you might want to think about a slip sheet of red rosin paper or 15 # felt.....one way or another.. something will get dirty... better the sub-floor...hey cuz'.. where did you get that roof ? looks like a nice neat job.. is it a site panel or a factory panel ?.. if it's factory , what's the brand ?
*Hey guys,Thanks for the quick replies. I feel better now. I'lldo the drywall first. Mike, the roof is site formed standing seam. Lotsa fun too as there is no right angles on the roof to ref from... had to draw some. I love Gabe! I'm gonna send him some more pics. He's right too, hell, I drew the plans for three years. Been building for a year and a half. I should be ready for insulation soon! I'm not in a hurry though, just ask my wife...Thanks,Bill
*Glad to see you're posting again badhabits, I think you pretty well knew the answer before you posted, you just wanted to say hi and show us your progress.Keep trucking buddy, you'll be in your new home soon.Gabe
*Hey thanks Gabe,Actually I wasn't sure about the drywall thing. I guess I've probably seen it done that way and just didn't realize it. It's been a long process to build this house, but we've now got another bun in the oven and the pressure's really on. The 1 bedroom house we're in aint' gonna hold another young'un!Bill
*Bill, I guess congratulations will be the order of the day, hoping for a healthy addition to your family. However, my condolences to your wife for putting up with you all this time. :)Gabe
*Diane says thanks, Gabe.
