Hey guys I have to patch a hole in drywall tommorrow, the location is not real close to home so I want to patch spackle and paint all in one shot if possible so I won’t have to make another trip back. This isn’t something i often do, so was wondering if anyone has some advice as to how I can get the compound dry fast and get a couple of coats on and paint. Is there any type of “fast drying” compond that I could use? Appreciate it.

How big is the repair?
It's about 8" x 12" patch.
Durabond mix with latex paint (enough paint just to give the color)over fiberglass tape is the way to go for one day repairs .
But in your case and with this small area,ii will mix regular joint compound with plaster of Paris and paint.
You need a 24"x" piece of plywood or drywall to spread your joint compound over a 12"x" area. The amount that you need is one quart of joint compound. 1. Spread the JC even on the board.
2.Spread the plaster of Paris over the JC. One part JC with 1/20 of plaster Paris
3.Pour a small amount of your paint (2 tee spoons)
4.Use your 4"-6"tape knife to mix for 1 to 2 minutes
5.and apply the mix over the entire area. You will find out that this mix allows you to work the same plaster until is smooth without using sand paper or wait to dry in order to apply a second coat. If needed you can wet the same plaster and work with it again.
Sounds easy and it is WHEN you get the right amounts mix for each job.
If you have any holes at your house, I suggest to fix this holes first and learn the Mix before you take the long trip. And don't forget the hair dryer and that you need to apply a finish coat of paint. Two is better.

Yes. Durabond makes 30, 45, 60 and 90 minute stuff. Not all places carry all types.
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
Use USG's Easy Sand joint compound. It dries like Durabond, but ( as you might guess ) sands much easier.
How fast does that dry Shep?
You can use 20 (I think there's even 5 min..........wow), fibreglas tape if you like, and be dry enough to recoat in maybe an hour. Bring a fan and move the air around. Hope for no humidity. I'd be wary of painting the same day, but its been done. You can sponge the patch smooth if you do a good job finishing. And as always, best of luck.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

The only problem is the paint.
With Durabond it will leave an outline (like stain)( if you paint the same day) around the patch. And you cant rework the durabond to a smooth finish in one shot. You need to apply a finish coat of joint compound.
Try this mix. I learn it from an old men looking thru a pin hole.
And I use it for 20 plus years.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner- had truck problems to deal with.
The Easy sand I have has (about ) a 45 min. drying time. my yard only has that one, but I think its avaialble in other drying times.
This is probably too late since you said you were doing the repair today, but I wanted to get back to you anyway.Maybe it will be helpful in the future.
