Hello, all. It’s been a while since I have strayed over to Breaktime from the Knots.
I’m finishing a basement. Standard affair with approx. 75 sheets of 4×8 drywall. Just under 8′ wall height, and a flat ceiling. It’s just a basic box, nothing fancy. I was wondering what the approximate going rate of $$ per sheet for hanging and/or taping. I may hang it myself, but there’s no way in hell I’m taping anymore. Too old for that crap!
This is in the suburbs of Chicago, as location is always relevant.
Any information on what drywaller’s are charging these days is helpful. I just want to have a good idea of what the cost will be while I find the right guy to do this for me. I haven’t done any remodeling jobs involving this much drywall in about 5 years, so I would like to know what the market is for a job well done.
Any information is appreciated.
Jeff

Some guys will finish a job that you hang, some will not. I would pick a drywaller first and then see how they want to do it, unless you're committed to hanging the board.
I'd prefer to have the drywall hung and taped, but the last guy I was using, who did 5 or 6 taping jobs for me, didn't hang. He was just a taper, so I hung them myself.
If I hang them myself, I know what I'm doing. I used to do the whole enchilada when I was younger, but I have had a serious respiratory problem that nearly put me in a box, and I'm not interested in breathing in the drywall dust anymore, even with proper safety equipment.
I'm just looking to see approximately what contractor's are paying per sheet to have it done.

In these parts hanging goes for about 12 bucks/ 4 x 12 sheet, not including the rock and stocking the job. Taping is about 20 bucks a sheet plus cornerbeads, double for over 8'.
Taping to what level? For that price here you'd get a rough job that was barely level 4. For taping, finishing, sanding to a solid level 4 around here I'd figure well over $1/SF, and closer to $2/SF for a level 5 job that's fully skimmed and sanded, critical areas worked over until there are no visible issues, etc. There would be areas over 8 feet, cathedral ceilings, angles, etc.
The OP doesn't need this in his basement, most likely. I would probably guess in the range of $1/SF for a decent level 4 job, labor and materials provided. It's going to depend entirely on who he hires and what their program is. Bids in the $2000-2500 range for a solid job would seem normal to me.
