Anyone know of a good quality ductless downdraft range hood? Did some poking around on Google and couldn’t find one. HD lists a GE Monogram as ductless, but I read the installation manual and it the site is incorrect, it’s a ducted unit…

As far as I know they're all ductless uness they don't vent to the exterior (not recommended)
Be careful on the size of unit you choose. Some are up to 1200 cfm. We must be roasting sides of beef/pork indoors now as that is getting near small restaurant size!! Even in an older loose house, exhausting a large amount of air (we never used to do this) can cause backdrafting of natural draft combustion appliances and fireplaces.
You lost me...

I'm not sure whether we're talking about the same thing... This is going into an island, above a finished basement so I'm looking for a ductless (unvented) unit similar to what they have for above stove installations that use a washable filter. Not as good in some respects, but a lot more practical in this case I think...

Paul,
I thinks he was goofing around.
I don't quite a few of these and never seen ductless.
If you are demoing the kitchen good, you can always lift up the ply and vent it out inside of a joist bay.
Note to Paul:
These thing can be a huge royal pain in the azz!! You have to locate the Island, cabinet and DD just right or you WILL endup over a joist.
There is wiggle room usally about 8 in. or so to either side but.............
And the placement in the counter has to be done very accurately and in conjunction with a matched cooktop.
Any Q's give me a call during the week.

Eric...
EVERYTHING I do is a pain in the azz, we already established that ;)
The island's already there, as is the cooktop, another reason I've been hoping someone makes a ductless. Who's the patron saint of lost causes? I need to make an offering...
(when're you coming down for another Sam Adams?)

Did you check and see if Fantech has anything up that alley?A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

No, but that's a good idea, thanks! Checked Broan, Jennair and GE so far...
