A few weeks ago I finally finished removing the acoustic from the ceilings and the wall paper off my living-room and dining-room. I left the brick fireplace exposed thinking that all I needed to cover was the wainscoating and crown molding. I thought that all I would need to do would be to hose the fireplace down to remove the acoustic that fell on it when I brought the waterhose into the house to get rid of the acoustic on the ceiling.
I’ve tried brushing the brick w/ a wet brush and the brick does clean but the dust reappears. It seems the dust has penetrated the brick somehow and as soon as the brick dries the dust stain reemerges.
How do I get rid of this? This is old clinker-brick in a beautiful arts & crafts fireplace. Help.

Try a small test area with muriatic acid, washed off with water afterwards. It won't harm the brick -- might dissolve the acoustic.
*How dangerous is this sort of acid. I suppose that if I have no alternative I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question.Jose
*Jose,It is sold specifically for cleaning mortar splashes from brickwork. If you can't find it a weak solution of hydrochloric acid will do the same thing, but the fumes from that are a lot more unpleasant.
*Thanks again!Jose
