E glass and presence of argon/Krypton
We recently employed a company to manufacture and put in place a dozen windows – many of them large triangular shapes – for example 8′ x 8′ x8′ – the dual pane to seat (without frame) on the already existing frames of 2 x 6 amd 2 x 8 timbers. The frames had all been in position since 1956 and we’ never had a cracked window. I understand the installers used a separate company for the manufacturing process. Some windows had to be made and remade three times as the just would not fit. There is even on window with scratches on the inside of the glass. We have lost a great deal of confidence in this company and want to know how without taking the windows apart we can find out whether there is argon/krypton gas or just air in the new windows – also whether they were E coated or not. Personally I see no difference in them. We are ofcourse aware that over time leaks might occur and the window will them fog up – this has not happened – however the installation is less than three months old.

Easy way to check low-e is hold up a lighter. You will see 4 flame reflections from eash side of each pane. If low-e is present one of the flames will appear redder in color then the rest.
As for gas... who cares it'll be all gone in a few years anyway and the energy savings over the life of the windows wouldn't buy a good steak dinner.
Or one flame will look greener than the others. Also - if there is a thermo-spacer between the glass you won't have a gas-fill port visible.

The flame test will work for low e. The position of the different colored flame will tell you where the e is applied (towards the outside for hot climate, towards the inside in heating climates.
For gas, you should be able to see a sort of pop rivet shape on the dividing strips between the glass, at least on the metal divisions.
Did no one make a template for that glass b/4 order?
