scary!
NO.
The wire needs to be in conduit. The expansion joint will expand and contract and rub the insulation off and maybe kill you. Probably not but anytime I think of electrical problems charcoaled bodies spring into my mind. If you have a lot of energy jack hammer a trough across and run the wire in pvc if you don't, learn live with an extension chord.

Don't need a jackhammer, use a diamond blade or masonry blade and cut a trench. Bigger issue is thrying to get it in the right place so it matches the shop layout for the next dozen years...or six months which ever comes first.
Do it right, or do it twice.
Yea I should have said that. I had cutting the trench with a saw and popping it up with an electric jack hammer in my mind. My fingers just didn't get the memo.Who Dares Wins.

I hope your not using the postal service for those messages.

Can you drop the service down from above? Like on some retractable reel?
Like Wet Head indicates, it would be less scary (and dangerous) should you spill your beer.
