I am wiring a GFI with switch and confused how it all goes together. The receptacle has a line, load and two small wire leads on the back. I have wired the line in correctly and started to have a problem with what to do with the rest. I understand the difference between line and load. To complicate matters, the bathroom has old tube and knob wiring. I found the hot side by using a tester grounded to the water pipes. I then wired the black side of old wiring in the black side of the load area. I then wired one of the black leads to the neutral side of load area, and the other lead to the neutral old wiring. This combination works. Does anyone know if this is correct or should I invest heavily into fire insurance.

The part that scares me is that it works!?!?
The two black leads are for the switch, with the "line" terminals (hot+ neutral) correctly connected, connect one black lead to the hot "line" terminal, the other black lead to the hot (black) wire that leads to the light fixture. The neutral that runs to the light should be run straight through the box as with a normal switch (or connected with the neutral "line"). The "load" terminals should not be used unless you're protecting further receptacles/ devices.
Good luck! Enjoy your learnin'!

Thanks. To make it all work I tried alot of combinations and the posted one is how i made it work. After laying awake half the night thinking about it, I am wondering if the device itself is functioning properly. Thanks again , I will head back to the job and try the way you explained.
