There is a compressor with the following info on it:
Single phase
208/230
12 amp
The compressor has 12 gauge wire coming out of it, with a black/hot, white/neutral, and a ground.
In order to properly wire this compressor, you would need a 15amp double pole breaker at the panel, and run 12/3 romex from the panel to the compressor. Both the white and black wires would be hot, there is no neutral, but there is a ground.
Would this be the proper way to wire this device?

Just run 12/2 wg and marrk both ends of the white wire with black or red electrical tape.
Install a double pole 20 amp breaker for the #12 wire.
Be sure to install a 240v cord plug and receptical so that know one can mistakenly plug a 120v appilance into it..
Yeah, I meant a double pole 20amp breaker. Thanks for the reply.
Yes, DaveRicheson has already filled in the finer points.
12/3 is a waste of wire (unless you already have it) - if you use it, just leave the white conductor disconnected and capped at both ends.
