Electrical – spacing of Jboxs on firewal
I don’t have my copy of the NEC with me and I can’t remember the minimum spacing allowed when there are outlet boxes on opposites of a fire rated wall. I seem to remember 24″, but wouldn’t swear to it. In my case, this is for the wall between the garage and the living room. The current boxes are about 6″ apart and since I am doing some remodeling, thought I might space them at minimum code spacing.
Thanks

Some boxes are fire rated higher than the standard blue PVC boxes. It seems to me that you would want the boxes on opposite sides to fall into different stud bays so fire could not burn clear through both boxes into the house.
Metal boxes with Transite cover plates, perhaps? :-)

True enough. However, I seem to remember a specific minimum distance specified in NEC and I was hoping that I wasn't hallucinating...
I don't think that the NEC covers that, but I might be wrong.
I think that it is in the IRC or similar code.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
