Electricians: Best/Worst part of the job

CplDevilDog | Posted in General Discussion on November 16, 2006 01:30am

For all of the electricians out there, new or old work, what do you like least about your job?  What do you like most?  I am considering moving into the field and would like to look before I leap.

Thanks

Cpl,  Here's an observation from another trade.

The money is good, there seems to be an abundance of work in residential and a good carpenter will clean up after you.

    Best of luck.

A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

In all due respect to electrodes, the two guys that work for me are pretty neat.  But many others should have no trouble finding their way home.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

The thing that I like least is bringing a building out of the ground in wet or cold conditions. It is extremely difficult to rough in numerous underground conduits [and maintain their integrity] when other trades are working with you [at the same time] in a big mud hole.
This statement does not apply , of course, in you are referring to the residential trade.
On the plus side, you will be able to ply your trade with a relatively small investment in tools. If you get into larger commercial work, you will need a lot more investment , though.
You will need to become a student of the [ ever-changing] National Electric Code and it's local revisions.
I've enjoyed a good living for over 30 years in the industry. We can always use more good help.
    Chuck
