Elevator contractors-high on themselves

I’m wondering if anyone else has trouble getting cooperation for their elevator contractor?
Are they all arrogant eliteists?

Couple of things. Fill in your profile. It helps to know where someone is when answering questions. Secondly, are you talking residential or commercial / industrial elevators? If you're talking commercial/industrial, I feel your pain. To answer your question, yes they are arrogant eliteists.
I've had to work with a couple of elevator companies in the last year or so. It doesn't matter which company you are working with, they all work the same. Basically they do what they want when they want. It doesn't matter who you are. You are not a priority. If they quote a 12 week lead time, count on 14 or 16. They demand a significant partial payment up front (we all know that shop drawings are 20-25% of the cost of a $50,000 elevator - yeah right) and balance at completion. If you hold retainage until substantial completion, count on a notice of lien before the project is completed. If they install damaged interior panels in the cab, they find a way to turn it around to you. The list goes on forever.
Complaining to them doesn't help. If any thing, it just makes matters worse. They know that you only have so many choices and you are basically locked into one manufacturer once design is complete since each elevator (and hoistway, rails, pit, sump configuration, etc.) is project specific. Elevator companies are few and far between.
As bad as the elevator companies are, the elevator inspection companies can be much worse. In the Chicago area, it is a known fact that an elevator will not pass the first inspection. They will "find" at least 5 or 10 items to require a second inspection (and fee).
One of the current projects I'm working on has a couple of passenger elevators and a freight elevator. I can hardly wait for what curveballs we get when they start to go in in a few months.
what entertainment scale will this one get???Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->
WOW!!! What a Ride!<!----><!---->
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
7 out of 10 hammers.
Mainly because I can't imagine that many elevator guys on this forum, otherwise this could crank up to eleven in no time......that's not a mistake, it's rustic

The sky's the limit!
"what entertainment scale will this one get???"
It's entertainment value will probably go up and down a lot.

Luckily we got in this thread at the ground floor...
LOL! Thank you, Boss! Very nice.
If you happen to be in NY, I have a friend in that business. Be glad to ask him to contact you if that helps?
