Can anyone tell me if there are any differences between laying down an “engineered” hardwood floor vs a regular hardwood floor?
anything I should know? I’ve only ever layed hardwood once and that was about 8 years ago.
PS. my response time will be slow as I don’t have a comp right now . but I will read and do appreciate any responses

There can be significant differences. Or no difference at all. If you are talking about nailing the flooring to a standard plywood subfloor, then it works the same. But one advantage to the engineered stuff is that it can be glued to a slab. And there are a few other differences.

I just found out from my salesman that glue down is not recommened. I'm not sure why not - he didn't have a specific reason for me, only that it is not manufacturers recommendation.
I need to rent a nailer for for the main floor installation, what size nails should I use and what is the normal nail spacing. can I use my brad nailer for the starter strip and 1st couple rows that the floor nailer can't fit, or should I hand nail?
If the mfgr recommends against glue-down, then don't rock the boat. If you go against their recommendation you will void the warranty.
You might get away with using a 15 ga finish nailer to set the rows against the wall, but for the most part you need to use a regular floor nailer. Or you can pre-drill slightly undersize holes and hand nail with 8 penny finish nails.
