Extending the leg of bath accessory
I have a bath accessory that is placed over the toilet, made of particle board (highest quality) with two legs of 1/2″ x 8″ material, one on either side. It has a cabinet used to hold spare paper and other bath necessities.
Due to the replacement of the toilet with a comfort height low-flow model, the top of the tank is now a bit too tall to fit under the cabinet of the accessory. I need to add about 4″ of material to the bottoms of the legs.
Of course, the criteria are that it should look decent and have enough strength so it doesn’t collapse.
I was thinking of just a slab of 1×4 under there, on edge, painted white might look OK but debating and not coming up with a good way to secure it and provide strength at the joint.
What you can’t see in the picture is the 24″ cabinet that sits above the toilet.
Hanging the cabinet on the wall is out, there is just a thin paperboard backing on it.

If you could find the same thickness white melamine perhaps a shelf material at the crap store.........
Make up your 'longer' leg extensions and then wrap the joint with maybe a round edged stop-1-1/4". You could peg the two together. Paint out the stop to match. If you don't get in there kicking it around, it might stay together.
I'd stick th 4" stub on, then
I'd stick th 4" stub on, then sister a piece about 12" long to the stub and the existing leg. Ideally you'd put the sister on the inside, where you would hardly be able to see it, but that may conflict with the toilet base.
Or you can go to Ikea, Wally World, or many other places and find a somewhat nicer wall-hung cabinet for under $50, I'm guessing.
