   Use MDO or also known as sign board. Takes paint well and is made for exterior and interior use. Don't use MDF unless you want to replace it every month.

   *... and don't use softwood plywood under any circumstances ...Wrapped porch columns usually take a beating and can open up at the corners if not detailed properly. What's wrong with white pine if you are less than 11 1/4"? If you're painting and using #2 SWP use BIN on the knots before priming (some here like 1-2-3 better, BIN isn't technically rated for exterior use).Jeff

   One or two manufacturers do make an exterior-grade MDF, but the MDO is a better product for the application you mentioned.

   Choicetrim/Primetrim. You can get it up to 11-1/4 I think.

   Hello all -- Im still brainstorming my new house. xterior mdf is unheard of in these parts but I'm still looking. I need to wrap some porch columns and case out the porch beam with something (WITHOUT ANY KNOTS) What about AC fir plywood? any other suggestions? Thanks again! Charles Elkins
