Exterior Trim Corner Board Installation
I’m going to replace some exterior trim corner boards that are rotting. Are they usually installed under the soffits or just butted to them. I can’t tell by looking as the joint is painted. Or will I just have to wait ’til I try to remove them?

In most cases, the soffit is finished first, and then the corner boards but to it. Much easier, but you'll soon find out, right?
Thank You,
I'm feeling better already and hoping this is one of the 'most cases'.
I've never seen anything but butted into the soffit. As the other poster said, the soffits are done first. When you do the corner trim, nail the two pieces of corner trim together before, then put it up as one piece. This way any irregularities in the frame will not affect the corner trim and it will be nice and straight.
Thank You,
I kind of thought that was the way to do it and now you've confrimed it.
Now, all I have to do is climb the ladder and do it.
You were 'right on' on all points. It was butted to the soffit and I did prebuild...the sheathed corners were irregular. Took a while to attach. I used screws (lots of them for a 17 1/2 ft corner ..nail gun for the next corners.
Thank You again!!!
