Am considering the removal of an existing window, followed by replacement with a window that is smaller in both height and width. The exterior wall is faced with a brick style that is no longer available. To reduce the amount of work required, I’d prefer leaving the original bricked opening, and applying some form of “finish” between the original opening and the new window. Given that I can’t match the brick, I’m looking for ideas to somehow make the reworked wall section a feature, rather than hiding the fact, the window was changed. Any suggestions?

How much smaller. If it's just a couple of inches on each side, I'd think about some boldly profiled molding. If it's four inches or more more, I'd consider a contrasting brick.
Same as above - how much different? There are metal filler strips that come up to probably 4" in width that snap into some units. The molding idea is one I use with some frequency. I've seen T1-11 used in your situation (not recommended) - basically you can fill it with just about anything. I think the issue is what's going to look best and clean, and that depends on how much space you're filling and what the place looks like to begin with. Are there other exterior elements that could be "borrowed" from and repeated here without looking gaudy?
You say youre using a vinyl window. Is it a "replacement window"? In which case theyre odered to your custom dimensions and there shouldnt be much slack to take up. Maybe a 1/2" around TOPS! A vinyl 1/4 round trim would work to match the window. Or, are you talking an Anderson Vinyl exterior in which case may leave you with considerable space to deal with. What kind of space or windows you talkin' bout? You seem to indicate that you already have the window so my suggestion if its white to trim it out with white vinyl coil stock.

The space in question between the original opening and the new window will be approximately 10-12 inches all around. There is vinyl siding on the second story.
