A lot of houses have those lighted icicles for Christmas decoration to mimic ice dams thawing and freezing due to bad house construction. Maybe we’re onto something here… does someone sell decals for the windows to make them look broken? Or how about fake appliances to put on the front porch? Is there a way to professionally paint SUV’s to make them look like they have dents and rust spots? How about make-up for women to make them look like they’ve more wrinkles?

I guess it is just a progression of all that 'antiquing' and surface distressing crap that's been going on in the interior design circles. Or how about all of those 'roadhouse' type bars and restaurants that fill their walls with license plates and crap. I really need to eat in someone's garage! I wish they would at least throw some oil stains on the floor too.
You may find it interesting to know that back in the heyday of the Arts And Crafts movement, there were a number of these tricks that were done to make houses look old and, yes, broken. My favorite is fake creeping damp. Basically a brand new house would have it's stucco deliberately broken away at the bottom to look like there was a moisture problem.
All those neuveau-rich Americans wanted their houses to look like old English estates. I guess it gave them a sense of identity. Seems to still be the problem today with all the throwback architecture and design.
*I found some "bullet hole" decals that I put on my tailgate and on a friends police cruiser. They look dead nuts real, we both got more than a few looks.
